How to track bills that are paid but not cleared

Marking a bill paid does not mean the transaction has cleared the account. Ignoring that gap can make available money look too high.

  1. Record the payment

Mark the bill paid or spent when you initiate the transaction so the household knows the obligation was handled.

  2. Keep it pending

Leave the payment in its pending-clearing status so everyone can see that it was handled but has not appeared in the bank balance yet.

  3. Review the bank balance

When the transaction appears in the account, update or confirm the reviewed balance.

  4. Mark it cleared

Once the payment appears in the account, mark it cleared and continue from the newly reviewed balance.
